On your marks, get set, go! In a real-time video installation, five elite Sydney athletes compete in a daily race for continual improvement. But are they really human?
No, they are buildings. Behind each human facade is a highly energy efficient building that controls each human avatar’s performance with data on the building’s real-time energy consumption.
Building Run co-opts the language of sport to bring us in close relationship to the intricate workings of the built environment.
This is the race of the century: a race to upgrade our infrastructure to be leaner and greener. Each day of Building Run witnessed new obstacles, new winners and an infinite stream of insightful and poetic moments that speak to this very human challenge. Witness the fitness.
Building Run is the concept of artist Keith Deverell, winner of the Sensing Sydney public art commission. It was showcased at Art & About, the City of Sydney’s annual celebration of public art with from 20 September – 20 October 2013.
