David McCandless is a self-proclaimed Data journalist, and has created this excellent website InformationisBeautiful.net, and a number of books, compiling examples of beautiful images that communicate data – or how the world works. There are a number of interesting climate related examples, including this one on the number of climate denialist scientists in the US.

Heat Wave

Sara Hughes, a New Zealand artist who works with colour, economics and information, was invited by Federation Square in Melbourne’s city centre to participate in their ‘Art in Strange Places’ commission. Her umbrellas provided more than shade on a hot March afternoon, they also doubled as pie charts for sharing statistics from contemporary culture. In particular, they communicated the environmental factors that influence the climate and weather conditions of Melbourne providing a space for respite and debate.
